Thames Valley and points West
At the time too ,the majority of trains were 47 hauled so the gallery won't be of interest to everyone,although I have to say I quite liked them.
47712 " The Peoples' Princess " .West Hatch 26th August 1991 13.03hrs. 11.15 Waterloo-Exeter. Two lads who were on the bridge with me had been discussing which of two Cl50's was the most likely to be on this working. Hearing it starting out from the station just over a mile away , I suggested instead of a 50 it might be " something red !". The look on their faces had to be seen to be believed when it hove into view.
" O Master of all things.Lead us and we will gladly follow !".My next three trips west that year were to Pangbourne on the GWR main line and really in the Thames Valley this time. As opposed to the Waterloo line there was a good mix of freight and passenger workings ,which despite the majority being worked by Cl47's was much more interesting.
47362 31st August 1991 14.48hrs. 4M60 13.10 Southampton MCT-Lawley St.FLTIn March 1993 I broke a bone in my foot but offered to go into work and do sorting rather than my round. They obviously didn't think much to my sorting and I was told only to come back when I was able to get on my bike.
So , in those days you could drive onto the bridge at S.Moreton, and hop from one side to the other as trains came.
The location may not have been that special but there certainly was a great variety in what could be seen there.
