  • Red Stripes everywhere! 37677+37685 reverse 6H14 06.02 Arpley-Peak Forest Speedlink out of the way of the main running lines. The first 5 wagons will go round to Buxton ,and beyond ,while the empty cement ones will go round to Earles Sidings later in the day.

  • Woodhead Last Day 17th July 1981. <br /> 76012+76007 pass westwards at Dunford Bridge and into Woodhead Tunnel with a loaded MGR for Fiddlers Ferry PS,the mainstay of traffic during the last years.<br /> Note what the best-dressed cranks were wearing those days.

  • Moving to Penistone after lunch and being allowed next to the signalbox steps at Huddersfield Jc., 76051 is seen on the 8E34 12.45 Garston-Mansfield CCS export coal empties.<br /> Interesting sign chalked up outside the nearby gangers' hut that day...tea 20p ,coffee 30p ,information 50p !!

    Moving to Penistone after lunch and being allowed next to the signalbox steps at Huddersfield Jc., 76051 is seen on the 8E34 12.45 Garston-Mansfield CCS export coal empties.

  • 76022 next up.Huddersfield Jc.Penistone 17th July 1981 8E11 12.00 Dewsnap-Tinsley. This train had to stop and detach a wagon with a hot box. Being the last day , I wonder whether the wagon and its contents were ever recovered.

  • Not THE last ,but one of the last loaded MGR's to head west,76010+76016 Huddersfield Jc. 16.30hrs. 17th July 1981 6M31 Barnsley Jc.Sds-Fiddlers Ferry PS.<br /> The final train left B.J. at 22.50hrs.that night headed by 76006+76014 ,but that was far from the end for that pair. They came back east around 3.00am with 6E80 Ince-Barton on Humber big bogie tanks and finally hooked onto 6M62 20.53 Parkeston-Edge Hill Speedlink which passed me at Barnsley Jc. at 04.55hrs on July 18th 1981. The end of an era.
