Essex Sand Gravel and Stone
The GBRf sand from Marks Tey has now finished too. Short-lived ,but very enjoyable while it lasted.
Waiting for unloading to finish 59102 stands in Chelmsford Rec. 25.6.2015 09.42hrs.
When I started work as a postman in 1991 ,these sidings were still being used by Mail trains and part of my initiation was two weeks here throwing mailbags. If I survived that , which I did , I would then be moved on for two more weeks of trials , including a week delivering to the notorious Swiss Avenue. Violent residents and fierce dogs roaming loose , I came out intact and started my 10 very enjoyable years as a cycling postman. At the end of May and into June 2015 there were points problems in Chelmsford meaning the stone empties were unable to access the Up Main for the journey back to Acton.
Until they were repaired , the trains were top and tailed and ran eastwards to Witham where they reversed.
Sunshine at this time was a very rare commodity and only on the last ,or next to last working did I manage a picture.
So lucky on this shot too as a stopping train was just a few feet behind me and in seconds my view of the stone empties was blocked.

Haulage of this train was taken over from GBRf early in January with a destination of Bury St Edmunds Yard.
Since then, as well as to Bury, the train has worked to Marks Tey twice , each time with the same loco. If successful ,it is hoped this will become a regular working, although twice in almost 3 months doesn't give out too much hope.Very rare working on 5.8.2016. Instead of the usual DBS 59 or 66 we got this GBRf job...possibly only the second time it has run . I failed to get a picture of the first run back in April .
This time the promised full sunshine never arrived either so hopes for getting the empties on the viaduct south of the station disappeared too.
Thinking I should at least go and snap the loco in Chelmsford Rec. I went ,
but found this strategically placed pile of stuff instead.
You'll just have to guess which one it was.Went over to Terling Rd.today , 1.09.2016 ,to try and capture the Marks Tey-Tunstead job after failing on Tuesday and found not only that one on time and in sun but 66152 on this 6M07 Ipswich Griffin Wharf-Watford London Concrete too, running just 20 minutes before it. Nice.
Walked back home in full sun. 3 miles ,45minutes.
